Major Requirements
The B.S. degree requires a minimum of 124 semester hours with 60 semester hours being in Liberal Arts credit. The major requires a minimum of 51 credits in psychology. A cumulative grade point average of 2.7 is required for admission to the major and to graduate.
The B.S. major in Psychology requires 51 semester hours that include:
- General Psychology (PSYC 1010)
- Research Core (6-11 hours)
- Research Methods in Psychology (PSYC 3090)*
- Research Practicum (PSYC 4070) (may be taken for 3 or 4 credits and may be taken twice)
- Personality Theory (PSYC 4010)
- History of Psychology (PSYC 4030)
- Psychology & Theology (PSYC 4060)
- Field Work Preparation and Practicum (PSYC 3500 & 4500)
- Laboratory Core:
- Cognitive Psychology (PSYC 3040)
- Psychology of Learning & Cognition (PSYC 3050)
- Physiological Psychology (PSYC 3070)
Students must also choose:
Three of the following:
- Developmental Psychology (PSYC 2010) or Child and Adolescent Development (PSYC 2030)
(Students may take either PSYC 2010 or 2030, but not both. PSYC 2010 is highly recommended for the major). - Human Sexuality (PSYC 2020)
- Organizational Behavior (PSYC 2600)
- Psychology of Gender (PSYC 3010)
- Social Psychology (PSYC 3060)
Three of the following:
- Psychological Testing (PSYC 3020)*
- Counseling Theory & Practice (PSYC 3080)
- Abnormal Psychology (PSYC 4020)
- Advanced Counseling (PSYC 4050)
Recommended course:
- The Composing Process (CMP 341)
*Statistics (MTH 2000) is a prerequisite for Psychology 3020 and 3090.
