3+4 RWC-UB Chemistry-PharmD Agreement

The cooperative Pharmacy program with the University at Buffalo (UB) consists of three years at Roberts Wesleyan College (RWC) and four years at UB thereby allowing students to complete both the B.S. and the Pharm.D. degrees in seven years instead of the traditional eight.  In the RWC portion of the program, the students complete 99 semester hours which includes the majority of the requirements for the Chemistry (or Biochemistry) major (see below).  During the first year at UB, students will take 25 hours of science and pharmacy course work that will transfer back to RWC to complete the B.S. in Chemistry/Biochemistry.  The student is eligible to graduate from Roberts Wesleyan College only after the RWC program and the first-year courses at the University of Buffalo are completed and transferred back to Roberts Wesleyan College.  For more specific details, contact RWC's Chemistry-Pre-pharmacy advisor at 585.594.6310.

Total Liberal Arts Hours Required: 60

General Education Requirements: Per General Education list (see General Education Council).  Exceptions: the lab science and mathematics proficiency requirements are met through the major; for the 3+4 RWC-UB Chemistry-PharmD Agreement only, GED 401 has a UB Pharmacy substitution.

Minimum Requirements: Overall and major GPA of 2.0; no grade less than C- in the major.

Transfer Requirements: See institutional transfer policies.

Application to the Major: Standard institutional major application should be submitted at the end of the sophomore year.

Major Requirements: 66 hours with a minimum of 43 hours in chemistry as follows:

  • Required chemistry courses: CHM 111**, 111 lab, 112, 112 lab, 211, 211 lab, 212, 212 lab, 221, 231, 311, 311 lab, 312*, 312 lab*, 304, 402, 460*, 498*;
  • One additional 400-level chemistry course (3 hours): BCH 305, CHM 406 or 420;
  • CSC 140;
  • 12 hours of mathematics: MTH 281**, 282, and 283;
  • 8 hours of physics: PHY 101** and 102 or PHY 201** and 202.

**Passing a placement exam could be required before enrolling in some introductory courses. CHM 111R (0) will be required as a corequisite to CHM 111 if it is determined that additional support will benefit the student.

Courses with an asterisk (*) are those courses that may be substituted with courses through the first-year UB program with an additional 12 hours of electives to complete the RWC B.S. in either Chemistry or Biochemistry.  The student must work closely with their advisor to ensure all requirements are met for the program.
