Biblical Studies, B.A.

The Biblical Studies major is a serious study of the Bible, both from an academic and personal point of view. Students take nine Bible courses, four theology courses, three or more courses in the Biblical languages of Greek and Hebrew, and courses in supporting disciplines such as philosophy, communication, literature, and history. Many Biblical Studies majors go on to attend seminary or graduate school, to serve as pastors, or to pursue careers as college professors in the field. 

SPECIFICS OF THE BIBLICAL STUDIES B.A. DEGREE

Minimum Total Hours: 124

Total Liberal Arts Hours: 90

General Education Requirements: Per General Education list (see General Education Council).  Exceptions:Students should take the Religion version of PHL 202; American Sign Language may not be used to meet foreign language proficiency requirement.

Minimum Requirements: GPA of 2.3 in the major and overall; no grade less than C- in the major.

Transfer Requirements: See institutional transfer policies; students transferring into the Biblical Studies major from Elim Bible Institute (EBI) should refer to the RWC/EBI transfer agreement.

Application to the Major: Special application form and requirements to be secured from the Department of Religion & Philosophy or online at the Department's intranet site and submitted at the end of the sophomore year. (Note: The standard institutional major application will not be accepted.)  A minimum overall GPA of 2.3 is required for acceptance to the major.

Major Requirements: 58 hours as follows:

  • BIB 200;
  • PHL 208;
  • PHL 402;
  • THE 200;
  • THE 275;
  • THE 305;
  • At least three of the following 200-level BIB courses: 201, 202, 206, or 208;
  • At least three of the following 300-level BIB courses: 301, 304, 305, 306, or 308 (BIB 301 or 308 mustbe selected);
  • At least two of the following 400-level BIB courses: 402, 403, 405, or 406;
  • One of the following upper-division theology courses: THE 325, 375, or 401;
  • At least three of the following biblical languages courses (at least one in each language): GRK 101, 102, 201, 202, HEB 101, 102, 201, 202;
  • At least two of the following supporting courses: CMC 309, HST 210, HST 306, LIT 307, or PHL 303.
