Our commitment and approach to maintaining an accessible website

Roberts Wesleyan University is committed to the following:

  • Maintaining an accessible website.
  • Ensuring that this website achieves “Level AA” conformance to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, to comply with the National Disability Authority’s Code of Practice on Accessibility of Public Services and Information Provided by Public Bodies.
  • Ensuring that all new information on the website will achieve “Level AA” conformance to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1.
  • Including accessibility when we procure 3rd-party systems or upgrades to existing systems.

The website currently has Compliant conformance to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. Our most recent web accessibility audit for this website was on: December 2, 2021.

Areas for improvement and time-lines

We are aware of some areas on the website where we could improve accessibility. We are currently working to achieve this. We hope that this website will achieve “Level AA” conformance to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 by August 1, 2022.

  • There are 3rd party forms that fail accessibility evaluation we are looking to correct.
    • Degree Completion Programs - Hubspot form has 15 violations for missing labels on select, input, and textarea elements.
    • COVID-19 - Google Form has 3 violations for missing label elements for textarea elements
  • There are approximately 23 images that are missing ALT attributes
  • There are approximately 10 links that are empty and require role="link", aria-label, or ALT attributes on images.
  • There are elements that are incorrect aria-label roles we are working to correct.

1.1.1 Non-text Content (Level A) – All non-text content that is presented to the user has a text alternative that serves the equivalent purpose, except for:

  • Controls, Input: If non-text content is a control or accepts user input, then it has a name that describes its purpose.
  • Time-based media
  • CAPTCHA
  • Decoration, formatting, invisible elements.

1.3.1 Info and Relationships (Level A)

  • Using ARIA landmarks to identify regions of a page.
  • Using aria-labelledby to name regions and landmarks.
  • Using semantic elements to mark up structure and semantic markup to mark emphasized or special text.
  • Using table markup to present tabular information.

1.3.2 Meaningful Sequence (Level A)

2.1.1 Keyboard (Level A)

  • All functionality of the content is operable through a keyboard interface without requiring specific timings for individual keystrokes.
  • Manually tested using Silktide browser plugin on Chrome and Firefox and VoiceOver utility on the Mac operating system.

  • Videos from YouTube have closed captioning and descriptions.

  • Auto fill can occur on forms within the cbu.edu site.
