Path to PsyD Program, by Kristi Stalk, PsyD Candidate '20

My experience at Roberts has truly been life changing. I completed my undergraduate work at Roberts and during that time, my experience here helped shape who I am. When I graduated with my Bachelors, I had no doubt in my mind that I wanted to return for the M.S. School Psychology program. The faculty in the Psychology Department at Roberts are professional, genuine individuals that are dedicated to walking alongside you every step of the way, both academically and personally. I began the Masters program in the Fall of 2016 and I can honestly say I loved every single minute of it. Our classes are challenging and invigorating. We have the opportunity to not only learn from the wealth of knowledge and experience our professors provide, but also from the knowledge and diverse experiences that our peers offer. In the Spring of 2018, I made the switch to the PsyD program. With the help of my professors, the transition was seamless. I knew I would be adding a significant amount more work, especially by having to catch up on what I had missed, however my professors and peers made the transition simple. I believe that the training we receive here at Roberts truly puts us a step ahead in the game. We are equally trained in assessment practices, counseling and consultation as well as best practices in all areas. Going out into practicum placements, I have felt confident and often times have been able to jump right in. Our training will make us valuable assets in our community and in our schools, and I am looking forward to what I can contribute thanks to my experience here at Roberts. The M.S. School Psychology and PsyD programs at Roberts have not only given me the confidence and training I need to be a successful member of the field, but I have also built relationships that will last a lifetime with both professors and peers.
