Welcome to the Howard Stowe Roberts
Cultural Life Center

Outstanding cultural events have long been a hallmark of Roberts Wesleyan University. We believe in the value of the arts and in the excellence that comes from the combination of divine inspiration and diligent practice and application of skill. The Howard Stowe Roberts Cultural Life Center provides the University with a premier venue to showcase student, community, and professional talent.

Built in 1996, our Cultural Life Center is a work of art in its own right. Located within the Center are the Andrews B. Hale Auditorium, Shewan Recital Hall, the Davison Art Gallery, and several state of the art classrooms. Students and community guests are able to take in live music, theater, and dance performances, as well as relevant and timely lectures, art exhibits, and other fine events.

Technical Specifications

The Andrews B. Hale Auditorium is a 974-seat performing arts theater. The acoustics are of such a quality that several internationally known performers have chosen to use our auditorium on their practice tours. Pavarotti once performed on our very stage!

Under the direction of Director Brenda Myrthil, the Howard Stowe Roberts Cultural Life Center brings a full range of professional national and international performers to students and the community each season. Additionally, the Roberts Wesleyan Community Theater (RWCT) performs two shows annually; the Roberts Symphony Orchestra (RSO) plays four concerts each season; and the next generation of professional performers and music/theater instructors - our students - demonstrate their knowledge and skill through choral, orchestral, and ensemble group concerts.

The Shewan Recital Hall, easily recognizable on the campus by its beautiful vaulted pyramid window, is another acoustically excellent venue.  The hall is located on the lower level of the Cultural Life Center, and our music students enjoy practicing here. The University also hosts many guest speakers and other events in this space.
