Certification Extension Options

Several certification extension options exist for Childhood and Special Education majors upon completion of their program and approval of their initial teaching certification(s).

Early Childhood (B-2) & Students with Disabilities (B-2) Extension

Students may complete either TEDU 3530 or TEDU 3720 to qualify for an extension to their initial certificate to teach as a general education or special education teacher in B-2 educational settings.

Grades 7-9 Content Extension

Students who have completed 30 credit hours as part of their concentration in English Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Biology, Chemistry, or Physics may add two middle school courses (TEDU 2600 and TEDU 3570) and complete 25 hours of field work to qualify for an extension to their initial certificate to teach in their area of concentration in grades 7-9.

Grades 7-12 Content Extension

Students who have completed 18 credit hours in a chosen content area may add two adolescence education courses (TEDU 3570 and TEDU 3860) to qualify for an extension to their initial certificate to teach in that content area in grades 7-12.
