Visual Art
Visual Art presents art courses for students with specific interest in this creative discipline. Visual Art engages students in relationship-based teaching within an artistic community that is dedicated to nurturing artists and Christians of consequence. This promotes an atmosphere of cooperative and integrative understanding of visual culture within the College community.
Studio Art majors are engaged with creating and exhibiting substantive works of art in response to a global community. Service opportunities, internships, and exhibitions provide practical experience and real world connections for students selecting this major.
Visual Art offers the following degrees:
- Art Studio, B.A.
- Art Studio, B.S.
- Digital Media Art, B.S.
- Visual Art Education, B.S.
The integrative art curriculum prepares students for teaching, exhibiting, and work in commercial and professional disciplines, as well as graduate study. Art internships with local businesses provide students with on-the-job experience. Internships are arranged according to individual career objectives. Communication majors may select a concentration in Graphic Design. (See Communication major listed under Communication.)
Admission
While preparing a portfolio is not a requirement for admission to RWC, it is, however, a requirement for ALL students wishing to be considered for Visual Art scholarship. The Art faculty regard the Portfolio Review as a critical opportunity to get to know our incoming students. The portfolio allows faculty to be informed as to the achievement level, experience, and aptitude for success of all our students. Special Notes
- Visual Art majors must complete ARTS 1020, 1030, 1040, and 1050 as a foundation prior to enrolling in other studio electives.
- Students concentrating in Digital Media Art may omit ARTS 1040.
- Non-art majors may enroll in any 1000-2000 level course without prior studio experience for elective and GED credit.
- All studio courses require a non-refundable studio fee.
- Students should check individual concentrations for specific requirements.
