Concentration in Graphic Design



The Graphic Design concentration educates students to become visual problem solvers who make valuable contributions to our world embracing economic and ergonomic concerns translating ideas, information and data into comprehensible communications through the use of typography, space, illustrations, photography, charts, words and color. Graphic design is everywhere.

This concentration offers students interested in working in the field of graphic design a comprehensive education that emphasizes mastery of design principles, theories and technical skill, within a broader studio art framework.

Students are exposed to all aspects of graphic design including print, publication, advertising, corporate identity and branding, packaging, interactive, web, environmental signage, motion graphics, interactive and web design. Students learn by developing solutions for complex communication challenges based upon real-world parameters such as budget, time, space, technology, and production methods.


Preparing students to be productive integrative servants engaging in significant real world issues is an important focus of the department thus students in the graphic design concentration are expected to complete a internship in their area of interest. 

The program has a strong curriculum that respects the foundations for formal, aesthetic and analytical knowledge while embracing new possibilities for visual communication.
