Roberts’ Nursing Club Hosts Cookie Decorating Party

Elizabeth McGarvey

The Nursing Club sweetened up a study break with a holiday tradition: decorating cookies together.

“We wanted to provide a festive event for our students,” said Elizabeth McGarvey’23 (Nursing), co-president of the nursing club. “Clinicals have winded down at this point, so we thought… you know what? Everyone loves cookies.”

The intimate gathering met December 7th to relax, decorate cookies, watch a movie, and enjoy the break from studying finals.

“It’s just a nice time for everyone to come together and share the common ground we have of being nursing students in a fun and laid-back way. I just love the vibe around the holiday season,” said McGarvey.

Robert Dorman

“The mission of the club is to bring together Nursing students from freshmen through seniors in an effort to include them before they get into the upper level nursing courses,” said Robert Dorman, the faculty advisor for the club and Traditional Undergraduate Nursing Program Director. “It’s a great way for younger students to learn from the older students and get acclimated.”

Dorman admires the dedication of the senior students who serve as officers. “Considering that we didn’t really have a club during the last couple of years due to COVID, they have persisted and stayed dedicated to ensuring that all of the events take place and making a fun environment when we get together.”

McGarvey adds, “I love getting to impact my patients. I love getting to see someone who was once sick really start to recover and turn the corner. I love kids and I want to go into pediatrics. I’m working in a pediatric emergency room so I get to help reunite families.”
