Roberts Awarded NetVUE Grant for Vocational Discernment

Roberts Wesleyan University is among a select group of 31 institutions to be awarded a 1-year Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE) Professional Development Grant to support vocational resources. The gift of $10,000 will be used to equip faculty and staff across campus on the importance of vocational discernment.

“We gratefully acknowledge NetVue for this gift which will help the university discover and utilize vocational exploration resources in curriculum development and co-curricular planning,” said Mary Flaherty, director of career development and assistant professor. “To make a difference in our life’s work, it is important for the institution to facilitate a collaborative process with the hope to spark insightful conversations on empowering communities to find their purpose, work collaboratively and grow.”

With a particular emphasis on first and second year students,this program will strengthen vocational exploration at Roberts, which is rooted in the liberal arts. Faculty and staff  will utilize two books as part of the learning experience, “Visions of Vocation” by Steve Garber and “The Purpose Gap” by Patrick Reyes. Roberts is looking forward to having a virtual meeting with Patrick Reyes and the Career Development team, faculty and staff leaders on Nov. 14.

NetVUE Program Development Grants are funded by the Council of Independent Colleges and Lilly Endowment Inc.
