Student Spotlight: Celebrating Two Army ROTC Graduates!

Lisl Smith

Lisl Smith'21 (Nursing)

Smith his from Moon Township, Pennsylvania and will be commissioned into the Nursing Corps.

Can you share advice that you would give a prospective student about being in Army ROTC at College?

One of the biggest challenges I faced was learning how to manage my time appropriately. Make a schedule and stick to it! The sooner you learn how to time manage effectively, the better your experience will be.

I would also say to just have fun with it. You'll be gaining a second family when you join Army ROTC, and the memories you make with them will stick with you forever.

What are you most proud of from being a student at Roberts, or that you achieved at Roberts?

My senior year of high school, I was told not to do Army ROTC along with nursing; it would be too hard. Four years later, I am proud to say that I did it. I didn't just survive the nursing program and ROTC; I was able to excel in both areas. While there may have been some bumps along the road, it was definitely worth it in the end!

Matthew Wottawa and Lisl Smith

Matthew Wottawa'21 (Homeland Security and Applied Intelligence)

Wottawa is from Yaphank, New York. He chose Roberts for the academic experience as well as a Christ-centered education.

What was your favorite class?

My favorite class was Criminal Investigations. This class gave me a bird's-eye view of life as an investigator. I liked looking at cases and learning about interrogating specific people of interest.

What are your future plans?

My future goal is to work as a military intelligence officer in the United States Army. Afterwards, I hope to work in the private sectors of the homeland security department.
