Intercollegiate Competition East Coast Conference Announcement

The East Coast Conference Council of Presidents announced today, in a unanimous decision, that intercollegiate competition for the fall 2020 season will be suspended due to the continued health and safety concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.

Currently, all fall sports and winter sports will be affected as plans are to restart intercollegiate competition after January 1, 2021. Included in these plans are efforts to create modified championship seasons for the affected fall sports during the spring season. Those sports include men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, and women’s volleyball. Winter sports including men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, women’s bowling, and men’s and women’s indoor track and field will have a late start to the season beginning after Jan. 1.

We anticipate that our student-athletes will have the opportunity to train and practice during the fall in what will become the traditional “out of season” period as dictated by NCAA DII policies. The pre-season for fall teams will be cancelled and all students will return as regularly scheduled (New Student Orientation August 21-23 and Classes beginning August 24). In addition, the ECC is working on guidelines for skill instruction, strength and conditioning activities under social distancing protocols and we will abide by all ECC and NCAA parameters, and efforts to plan schedules and championships for fall sports are being addressed by the conference.
