$10,000 Golden Apple Scholarship Awarded to Three Education Students

Presented by Roberts Wesleyan College, News 8 (WROC-TV) and Advantage Federal Credit Union

For the second year in a row, Roberts Wesleyan College, News 8 (WROC-TV) and Advantage Federal Credit Union partnered to offer three $10,000 Golden Apple scholarships to future teachers. The $10,000 scholarships were awarded to one undergraduate, one adult degree completion and one graduate student enrolling in the Roberts Wesleyan College education programs this fall.

This year’s scholarship winners are Arianna Carey (undergraduate), Matthew Boyce (adult undergraduate) and Tiffany Yarde (graduate).

“We are all recognizing a local and national teacher shortage,” Roberts Wesleyan College President Deana L. Porterfield said. “As a response to meet demand, the Golden Apple scholarship is just one way we are encouraging people to consider the teaching profession. Our community needs qualified, competent teachers and we are ready to prepare them with the best training and education for that important role.”

The annual Golden Apple banquet, to celebrate both the News 8 Golden Apple teachers and scholarship recipients, was held Tuesday, May 21, at WROC-TV studios on Humboldt Street for participants, supporters, families and sponsors.

“This partnership is important to Roberts and is a way to inspire and educate the next generation of Golden Apple teachers,” Porterfield said. “If you’re considering becoming a teacher, now is definitely the time!”

The 2020 scholarship application will be available again August 1. For more information on this program or to apply, click here.
