Roberts Social Work Students Participate in the Twelfth Annual Greater Rochester Night to Honor Israel

On Sunday, March 11th Roberts Social Work students and faculty participated in the Twelfth Annual Greater Rochester Night to Honor Israel presented by Christians United for Israel (CUFI).  The event was a show of solidarity with the State of Israel and support for Jewish communities around the world.

Roberts also partners with the Passages program which gives students a unique opportunity to learn about values, beliefs, and social policy in Israel. Through a generous partnership with the Passages program, students have the chance to study in Israel on a 12-day trip for only $1,000.

Josiah Lyon ’20 says, “The Israel trip was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. The chance to be in the Holy Land seeing the things I have grown up reading about in the Bible was surreal. It’s a really special opportunity.”

Nikki Gardner ‘19 writes, “The Night to Honor Israel was such an incredibly eye-opening and exciting experience! I attended my first Night to Honor Israel the spring before I went to Israel with Roberts’ Social Work Program in July of 2015. Attending that event, surrounded by both Christians and Jews all worshipping the same God, was so overwhelming and truly made my Israel experience so much more meaningful.”

Jon Brown ’18 and ’19 (MSW) reflected on his experiences, saying, “The trip to Israel was absolutely incredible! During my trip there in the summer of 2017, I had amazing opportunity to learn from highly-educated speakers and tour guides about first-century Judaism and the places Jesus walked, understand the context of the current conflict in the Middle East through multiple diverse speakers with differing perspectives, and experience the diversity of Israel and Jewish customs of its people today including the Christian Maronite population. When I look back at my undergraduate experience at Roberts, now as a Master of Social Work student at Roberts, I always point to all of the amazing experiences and pictures, and remarkable camaraderie I built with other students that carried into my senior year as a student. Words don't explain the experience with justice!”
