Student Spotlight: Victoria Crocker– Senior ‘19

Isaiah Lewis

What have you learned from your time as a Resident Assistant? How will you apply this experience to future career opportunities?

Being an RA has enabled me to grow as this role requires that you get along with a group of diverse people. An RA is a problem solver for resident life conflicts. It also allows me to be creative, such as thinking of events that students would find interesting and would want to attend. The other part, is being part of a circle of RAs who are like a family. They are supportive to me and each other, as not only fellow RAs, but also friends that you can rely on when there are situations you need help with. The RDs are always available and they care about what is happening on the floor, as well as in our lives. Together, we provide a strong sense of community in our dorm and across the campus.

With regards to your academic coursework at Roberts, what do you feel will be most helpful after you graduate?

Personal Economics, taught by Professor Erv Starr, was a class that is so beneficial, regardless of your major. It helped me to learn about personal expenses including budgeting, apartment hunting, investing and saving.

Tell me about a memory or experience that has helped you grow while being at Roberts...

Being an RA on campus has helped me to grow as a leader, especially my first year when I had a floor of 30 freshman and transfers. As the RA, I’m responsible for everything from social activities, enforcing community standards and creating a comfortable living environment and being an approachable servant leader. Living on campus and being an RA is rewarding – that’s why I am in my second year! We strive to create an environment that is safe, supportive, and fun. I have really enjoyed getting to know so many girls in ways I would not have if I had not been an RA.

How has your college experience at Roberts helped you become your best self?

I’ve had to adapt outside of my comfort zone. In high school, I didn’t take my studies very seriously as it came easy to me. Here, at Roberts, I am pushed outside of my comfort zone in my classes which also is a challenge to me.

Where are you from (hometown)?

Williamsville, NY.

What is your favorite food to eat in Rochester?

Mexican food is my favorite. Itacate is my local favorite. Often, my friends and I will go there together and get take-out to eat back in the dorm.

What’s your favorite spot on campus?

I like studying in the library. Usually, a whole bunch of friends go over together to study and get coffee at the café. Sometimes we splurge and get a cookie too!
