Roberts Named a 2018 Great College to Work For
Honor by The Chronicle of Higher Education Puts Local Institution on Elite List Fourth Year in a Row
Roberts Wesleyan College announced that the institution has been named on the 2018 Great Colleges to Work For list by The Chronicle of Higher Education, one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country. Roberts was one of 84 institutions to receive the “Great Colleges to Work For” recognition.
The college was recognized in six categories: Collaborative Governance; Confidence in Senior Leadership; Facilities, Workspace & Security, Tenure Clarity Process; Work/Life Balance; and Supervisor/Department Chair Relationships.
“Roberts Wesleyan is a great college because of our solid foundation and the hope that propels us,” said Deana L. Porterfield, president of Roberts Wesleyan College. “Since our founding, we have transformed lives through education for character. Faculty and staff understand their work as a high calling. Alumni and friends believe in our mission. Our students experience life-impacting education—learning to connect their head to their heart and engage their hands. We are anchored in our faith and engaged in addressing the needs of our world, which is a great privilege.”
The college was also selected for the 2018 Honor Roll distinction, which consists of stand-out universities in its size categories.
The 11th annual survey is based on responses from more than 53,000 people at 253 institutions: 165 four-year colleges (95 private and 70 public) and 88 two-year colleges. Of the responses received, more than 7,500 were from administrators, 18,103 from faculty members, more than 15,000 from exempt staff members, more than 1,300 from adjunct faculty members, and about 11,300 from nonexempt staff members in lower-paid job categories. It was administered and compiled by ModernThink, LLC, for The Chronicle of Higher Education.
Competing against hundreds of institutions across the country, Roberts Wesleyan College participated in a rigorous selection process, which included a two-part assessment: an institutional audit that captured demographics and workplace policies, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators and staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.
