Men's Basketball Opens Season with Loss to Dominican College

Amherst, N.Y. - The Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team opened there season with a 66-74 loss Friday evening against Dominican College at the ECC-CACC Challenge presented by WNY Knee and Orthopedic Surgery PC hosted by Daemen College.
 
The Redhawks struggled to get going on offense in the first half shooting just 1-10 (.100) from behind the arc and 8-26 (.300) from the field. Dominican took advantage of the poor shooting holding the lead throughout the entire half. The Chargers went on a 10-2 run at the end of the half to build a 14 point lead at the intermission.
 
Junior Manny Joseph found some rhythm on offense and ignited the Roberts Wesleyan offense in the second half scoring 18 of his total 21 points off 7-10 shooting including 2-3 from three point range. The 6-4 forward also pulled in six rebounds in the half.
 
At the 16:09 mark Joseph scored seven straight points for the Redhawks to cut the lead to six. Then a layup by Darren Dixion following a steal by Joseph narrowed the gap to 36-40.
 
With five minutes to go in the game Roberts Wesleyan was able to trim the lead to three, but the Chargers were able to fend off the comeback attempt and hold on to the lead to get the win.
 
Dominican College capitalized off the Redhawk's mistakes scoring 21 points off turnovers.
 
Malik Dare and Zack Panebianco both finished with 11 points for Roberts.
 
Roberts Wesleyan (0-1) will take on Caldwell University on Saturday at 2 p.m. for the second game of the ECC-CACC Challenge.
