Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Mercy in Season Finale

Rochester, N.Y. – In the final match of the season the Roberts Wesleyan women's volleyball team defeated Mercy College in three straight sets winning in dominating fashion, 25-17, 25-12, 25-18.

The seniors put together a strong performance in front of friends and family for the senior day game with Kate Steger and Alexandre Tahauri leading the team in kills with 12 apiece. Steger added in three blocks and Tahauri collected 23 digs.

The Redhawks were in total control for most of the match. In a first set win the team took an eight point run to take an 18-4 demanding lead that culminated with an ace from Shelby Strausbaugh, who had five aces on the day.

In the second set Roberts Wesleyan again strung together an eight point run to go up 18-8 as they cruised to a 25-12 set win. The team combined for a .519 hitting percentage in the set.

The Mavericks played a competitive third set keeping the score within reach, but four straight points by the Redhawks at 13-16 helped the red and black extend the lead and create a cushion to finish off the set with a 25-18 win.

Senior Olivia Zureck had 11 digs on the game to add to her impressive career with over 1,000 total digs. Anjali Thomson added in six kills from her middle position along with two blocks. And setter Elisabeth Rivera dished out 35 total assists.
