Paul Miller ’05 (Business Administration): Business with Integrity

Paul Miller ’05 (Business Administration) is Co-Founder and Managing Partner of the Integritas Group, an IT and Telecommunications consulting agency. Integritas is the primary source for customer’s voice, data, Internet, and integrated IT solutions. By providing a superior level of customer care and technical expertise, they help customers manage their telecom and IT services more efficiently and more cost-effectively.

The name, Integritas, is Latin for integrity, a theme which was a part of Paul’s business education at Roberts. Paul grew up in Rochester, and was familiar with Roberts. He was interested in a college that would give him both spiritual and professional training, and Roberts’ reputation in those areas were the major reasons he chose to attend.

Roberts challenged him to think and ask himself questions, like: What do I want to do after graduation? What industries and companies interest me? What position do I want to pursue, and how do I get there? Dr. Ervin Starr had a lasting impact on his life. He challenged students to think outside of the box, to be creative problem-solvers. He put value on taking risks, pursuing greatness, and pushing your limits.

Perhaps the most important thing Paul learned at Roberts was how to think critically. To be confronted with a problem, where you didn’t know the answer; and the answer was not found in a textbook. To do this you had to stretch your mind, get out of your comfort zone, and take good risks in order to be successful. The culmination of his experiences at Roberts forced him to do these crucial things, which he does every day now as a business owner.

Paul has some advice for our current students, “Become a student of your industry; learn about it from all angles: sales, marketing, engineering, product, design etc.… Most importantly, work hard everyday day. There is no substitute for hard work. You will climb the ladder, you will be successful, if you put in the work. To advance your professional career It will take time, probably more time than you want it to take. However, if you are the one that daily digs in, works hard, learns, grows, and takes good risks; you will find great success.”

Paul goes on to say, “Expect uncertainty and stress, this is how you grow and become stronger. Those difficult times, especially early on in your career are the greatest opportunities you have to grow and become stronger. Persevere, keep working, keep trying, don’t give up. It would be a tragedy if you allowed yourself to complain or expect someone to hand you success. One of my favorite quotes is by Pierre Corneille, a seventeenth century writer, he wrote, ‘To win without risk is to triumph without glory.’ Be glorious in your professional, personal and spiritual pursuits!”

As we celebrate our 150th anniversary, Paul’s hope for the future of Roberts is that we will, “…continue to graduate students with high moral character and strong work ethic with a high aptitude in whatever field of study they pursue. I hope that Roberts continues to be a safe place for students from all different paths can come to and learn and grow together.”

Paul is married and has two wonderful children. He and his family attend Grace Road Church. Paul is also involved in the community as a Managing Member of Fireside Collective 501c3 Non-Profit, an organization committed to anonymously blessing those in need in the Rochester community; and is a volunteer basketball coach.
