RG&E Grants Offset Energy Costs for the Crothers Science & Nursing Center

Thanks to two grants form Rochester Gas & Electric, the Crothers Science & Nursing Center will be able to offset over $350,000 worth of energy costs. The two grants are part of RG&E’s incentives to area organizations in an effort to make Upstate New York an attractive place in which to do business.

Roberts received a $300,000 grant through the Capital Investment Incentive Program, which funds electric-related improvements to existing and new buildings. The remaining grant money comes from the Business Energy Efficiency Program and offsets a study and implementation of energy-saving measures.

Attention to energy-saving details has marked the construction of the Crothers Science & Nursing Center. The building is being constructed to meet rigorous USGBC green building codes and includes some unique energy-saving features both indoors and out. The exterior design includes hardscaping to reduce water needs and lighter pavement colors to reduce heat generated and reflected near the building. Inside, the building makes use of more efficient heating systems that use lower temperatures and reclaim heat energy and is more energy efficient through smart lighting systems that sense vacancies and adjust to both usage and natural daylight conditions.

We’re pleased to partner with RG&E and NYSERDA in making these energy-saving measures and grateful for their support as we build a Center that provides updated, state-of-the-art facilities for our students. We’re also pleased to know that our new facility will enable the College to train more of the Nursing and Pre-Health students our area so desperately needs and allow us to continue giving back to our community through the many generations of Roberts students that live and work both here and throughout the world.
