Spring ConServe ConVerse Series 2023: Facing Climate Change, March 20-29th

The Ecological Stewardship Committee has put together an engaging series on the topic of Facing Climate Change. The series (March 20 - 29th) will feature keynote speaker Rev. Mitchell C. Hescox, President/CEO of the Evangelical Environmental Network (EEN).

Each year a series of cross-disciplinary experiences are created for the university community. These are open to Roberts’ faculty, student and staff as well as the community. This series includes lectures, a documentary film, lunchtime talks, and interactive events. This program will help us engage climate change in Christian ways as a community that cares for God’s world.

The co-chairs of the Ecological Stewardship Committee are Assistant Director Building Services, Doug Brooks and Professor of English and Academic Director for Language and Literature Tim Vande Brake.

Highlights of Events for the Broader Community

Two events that the broader community may particularly enjoy:

Kristy Liddell | March 21

Washington Grove is an old-growth forest within Cobbs Hill Park. It is very unusual for a major US city to have a sizable stand of trees that has never been cut. Liddell is the president of the organization Friends of Washington Grove, which keeps an eye on this local treasure and cares for it by maintaining the trails and keeping invasive species out. Rev. Mitchell C. Hescox | March 29

Rev. Mitch Hescox is a nationally known speaker on creation care and environmental life threatening impacts. Hescox began his career as an engineer in the coal industry, he then went to seminary and eventually founded EEN. The EEN has a large presence in Washington and their influence was crucial, for instance, in the passing of the Inflation Reduction Act (provisions for clean energy) last year.
