Alumni Spotlight: A Scientific Approach to Entrepreneurship for Ready-to-Eat Hot Meals Launches Dec. 7

Gabriel Ankamafio

Gabriel “Gabe” Ankamafio ‘07 (Biology) identified a need in his community, developed a hypothesis of a solution, tested the solution, got feedback and made adjustments to improve it. This is a scientific approach to entrepreneurship.

Growing up in Ghana, Ankamafio saw many examples of running a business from a young age. It was very common. From running a poultry farm with 3,000 chickens to tending to a vegetable garden that supplied the local restaurants, he was always looking to provide a solution to a problem to help impact his community with his entrepreneurial spirit.

As a Men’s Soccer player and Biology student at Roberts, the community of faith shaped him and helped him on his path to becoming the person he is today. Ankamafio said the close community on his soccer team and in his program provided him with “a groundedness that protected his integrity”.

After graduation from Roberts, Ankamafio worked in Microbiology at a UR Medicine laboratory, working on two U.S. patents with professors from RIT. One of his patents was even used in a product that was featured on Shark Tank on ABC. He is currently working on a utility patent for the unique packaging he will be using for the Homechow “sharing plate”.
