Share thisRoberts Wesleyan University Goes Electric with New Eco-Friendly Mower
Roberts Wesleyan University has taken a step forward in improving its sustainability efforts in grounds keeping operations with the purchase of a Mean Green Mower, a commercial grade, electric zero-turn mower that runs for up to 8 hours cutting 40 acres on a single charge. Roberts allocated funding from a $25,000 grant to purchase the mower, which will help to reduce carbon emissions and streamline operational costs and efficiencies.
The equipment, which will be used for general mowing on campus grounds starting this fall was purchased from Brodner Equipment, Inc. on Lyell Road in Gates, a family run business that has served the community for more than 50 years. The President of Brodner Equipment, Tim Baum, partnered with the University to understand their needs and to share his experiences with electric mowers in the education industry. Among its key benefits, the Mean Green Mower will improve air quality and save on fuel and maintenance. The quiet and efficient electric motor will also allow the Roberts’ grounds keeping team to start jobs earlier in the morning or later in the day without affecting on campus residents and neighbors.
