Athletics Update: College Will Proceed with Winter Sports Season

Roberts Wesleyan College will proceed with the winter sports season with the intention of beginning competition in early January 2021.

The return to competition will begin with men’s and women’s basketball. Student-athletes from those teams are expected to be back on campus with their teams on December 27 to prepare for games that could start as early as the second week of January. The condensed season will be formatted to include the majority of games against East Coast Conference opponents.

Other winter sports, including women’s bowling, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and indoor track and field are also cleared to begin competing again. Those teams will return to campus with the rest of the student body at the beginning of the spring semester. Scheduling and planning for spring sports are currently in process and schedules will be released as they are finalized.

All decisions for continuation with competition are contingent upon federal, state and local guidelines as well as recommendations made by the College’s restart committee.

The return to sports in January 2021 will mark 10 months since the last date of Redhawks competition in March of 2020.
