Ruth Logan Interviewed by RBJ Higher Education

Rochester Area Colleges have been preparing diligently for the Fall 2020 semester. The Rochester Business Journal (RBJ) recently published a story entitled, "Local colleges cautiously optimistic", written by Andrea Deckert. Read the section about Roberts restarting on August 24:

Ruth Logan, vice president for student and organizational development and chief diversity officer at Roberts Wesleyan College, says the college also used subcommittees for its task force and developed a plan for approval in roughly four weeks.

“It was a quick but thorough effort,” she says.

Classes begin Aug. 24 and will go through Nov. 20 in-person. Fall break was eliminated to minimize possible virus spread associated with travel.

After Thanksgiving break, the semester will be completed online. The last day will be Dec. 11.

“We really are making the best decisions we can with the information we receive,” Logan says, noting the college is taking every precaution to keep the campus safe and everyone there has to do their part. “We need everyone to care enough for one another to make this work.”

In addition to keeping students safe, parents were interested in what the academic experience would look like this semester in areas ranging from dining halls to classrooms, Logan notes.

They also questioned how students would socialize given the restrictions in place as a result of COVID-19.

“It will be different, but students will not be alone on campus,” Logan says. “They will still be interacting, just under new rules.”
