Brenda Myrthil Named Interim Dean of Students

Brenda Myrthil was named the Interim Dean of Students at Roberts Wesleyan College for the 2020-21 academic year. Myrthil most recently served as the Associate Dean for Student Programming and Leadership.  She began her new role on July 1. Dean Myrthil follows Dean Mike Broberg who recently relocated to St. Louis, Missouri.

Myrthil brings 16 years of experience at Roberts and 28 years of background in higher education including residence life, student activities, leadership, orientation, and community engagement.

"Roberts has a strong vision and a long history of building community that I believe will strengthen the student experience and support the development of all students. I am excited to be part of this process and to continue the good work we've started,” said Myrthil.

Myrthil earned her Master of Science degree in Counseling-Student Personnel Services from the University of Memphis and a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Communication and Journalism from Wayne State College-Nebraska.

“I’m excited to have Brenda as the Dean of Students at Roberts. She is the first female dean in a very long time and I know she will be a strong collaborator, create a vibrant campus community and advocate for all students,” said Vice President for Student and Organizational Development and Chief Diversity Officer Ruth Logan. “Her passion for students, equity and inclusion, leadership and her Roberts experience will be great assets to the College.”

In her new role, Myrthil will oversee the Office of Student Life. “I’m looking forward to welcoming students to campus in the fall and helping them succeed and grow in Christ,” Myrthil adds.  Myrthil lives in Rochester with her husband and two college-age children. Myrthil is passionate about campus community, lasting connections, leadership, being active in her church and integrating faith into daily service. She was recently trained as a CliftonStrengths coach to help prepare students for a life of involvement, learning, and service to our community.

Reporting to the Vice President for Student and Organizational Development and Chief Diversity Officer, the dean has responsibilities for residence life, student engagement, student leadership development, commuter and online student care. She will also be responsible for planning, implementing and assessing initiatives related to student life and success at the College. In addition, the dean is responsible for ensuring that campus units respond to all students’ needs effectively and compassionately and advocating for their interests.
