$10,000 Golden Apple Scholarship Awarded to Three Education Students

Presented by Roberts Wesleyan College, News 8 (WROC-TV) and Advantage Federal Credit Union

For the third year in a row, Roberts Wesleyan College, News 8 (WROC-TV) and Advantage Federal Credit Union partnered to offer three $10,000 Golden Apple scholarships to future teachers. The $10,000 scholarships were awarded to one undergraduate, one adult degree completion and one graduate student enrolling in the Roberts Wesleyan College education programs this fall.

This year’s scholarship winners are Madison Papaj (undergraduate), Elijah Sims (adult undergraduate) and Noelle Hensler (graduate).

The annual Golden Apple End of Year Scholarship winners were announced and celebrated on Tuesday, June 9, with the College, WROC-TV, participants, supporters, families and sponsors at WROC's Golden Apple End of Year Celebration.

“We don't know what schools will look like this fall, but we do know that the state and nation still need great teachers," said Joseph McCarthy, Dean of the School of Education and Social Work." We are in the midst of a teacher shortage. About one-third of all New York State teachers could retire in the next few years, which is why colleges have been experiencing enrollment declines in education programs over the past 10 years. All that means is that there is a gap to fill! By awarding the $10,000 Golden Apple Scholarships we are empowering people, from all different backgrounds, education levels, and experiences to become teachers and life changers," he said.
