What brought you to Roberts?

I worked at Syracuse University for 20 years as the director of Physical Education. I was actually hired by Roberts to start the Physical Education program and this will be my 11th year in this position. This major provides educational opportunities and experiences for students who are interested in teaching physical education and coaching in K-12.

What is your favorite thing about teaching at Roberts?

The Phys. Ed. major is a pretty tight community of faculty and students. The students start this program in their freshman year, so I get to see them early. I really get to know the students pretty well during their years at Roberts and it is rewarding to see them grow and develop over the four years.

What makes the Roberts Wesleyan Physical Education Program special?

Our program is very active in New York State. Each fall our students give a presentation at the annual New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance conference in November. We’ve been doing this for several years because it’s good for the students to attend the sessions, talk to exhibitors, network and have the opportunity get out and be seen by potential employers. Roberts is a small school, but we’ve done well being recognized for the preparation of our students among larger schools statewide. We are proud to have had three winners, in the last four years, of the Jay B. Nash Award given to two physical education majors in New York State each year by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

Student Insight:

Nathan Rarick, Physical Education ‘18

Dr. Gregory has been a great teacher and advisor since I started here at Roberts four years ago. She is always there for you when you need to talk and always steers you in the right direction when it comes to classes and professional development. Dr. G has taught me valuable life lessons whether it be professional or just for everyday life. I feel prepared for my future as an educator, and I can’t thank her enough for that.
