New Director of Choral Activities, Dr. Adam Potter, to Start in July!

The Department of Music and Performing Arts is so excited to announce that in July, Dr. Adam Potter will join us as the new Director of Choral Studies at Roberts Wesleyan College. He will be directing the Chorale and teaching Aural Skills classes in the fall.

Adam Potter has a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Houghton College, a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from Houghton College, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Choral Conducting/Choral Music Education from Florida State University.  From 2015 to June 2017, he was Director of Choral Activities at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi.

Dr. Potter has extensive experience in the Upstate New York area, having been the Director of Vocal Music for Dansville High School from 2009 to 2012.  He has been a faculty member at the Csehy Summer School of Music on the campus of Houghton College since 2013.  He has also been an online Adjunct Instructor of Graduate Choral Conducting for Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, PA. 

Dr. Potter has been a guest musician, adjudicator, and clinician at numerous conferences and competitions, including the Interlochen Center for the Arts (Michigan) and the Kenya Conservatoire of Music (Nairobi).  He was Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church in Quincy, Florida from 2012-2015 and has been Director of Music at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Cleveland, Mississippi from 2015 to the present.  Among his many honors are his membership in Pi Kappa Lambda, his Presser Foundation Award at Houghton College, and his Presidential Scholar in Music Award at Houghton.  In 2015, he was designated “Professor of the Month” by the Delta State University Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
