Women's Basketball Wins Season Opener

Rochester, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team opened up its regular season play on Friday in the ECC-CACC Challenge, defeating Nyack College 96-68.
 
Brooke Fields led all scorers with 19 points while adding in four assists, three rebounds and five steals.
 
The Redhawks cruised to a 49-26 halftime lead off excellent shooting, going 19-40 (.475) from the field while adding in seven three pointers.
 
Defensively, Roberts Wesleyan stood strong forcing 17 first half turnovers while only committing eight of their own. In the second quarter the Redhawks scored 19 points off turnovers as they outscored the Warriors 33-10 in the quarter giving Roberts the sizeable halftime lead.  
 
In the second half Roberts continued to shoot the ball well going 20-42 from the field and 5-17 from three-point range. Fields and Lucy Covley each hit a pair of threes in the half en route to the 96-68 final score line.
 
Emily Miller was the second leading scorer for the Redhawks with 16 points while Taya Andrews, Sara Nady and Covley each had 12 points. Taylor Bynoe led the team in rebounds with ten.
 
Roberts Wesleyan (1-0) will face off against Felician University on Saturday at 5 p.m. for the second round of the ECC-CACC Challenge.
