Roberts Board of Trustee Kevin Mannoia '77 Honored with Pastor-Preacher-Scholar Award

Wesleyan Holiness Consortium Founder Honored with Prestigious Award

On Friday, March 11, 2016, the Wesleyan Theological Society held its 51st Annual Meeting at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego where Rock Church Senior Pastor Miles McPherson presented Wesleyan Holiness Consortium Founder/Chairman, Dr. Kevin W. Mannoia '77, with the Pastor-Preacher-Scholar Award.

“The Wesleyan Theological Society grants this award to recognize individuals who embody the virtues associated with excellence in Christian leadership in the Wesleyan/Holiness tradition.” During the presentation, McPherson expressed gratitude to Mannoia, “During the last 13 years you’ve served on the Rock Board of Directors, you have always been the first one I’ve called…you are a light in the darkness, able to integrate theology into practical ministry.”

Mannoia was nominated to receive this award in recognition of his pastoral leadership, his influence on higher education institutions to establish a culture of Christ-centered scholarship, particularly through his role as Graduate Chaplain of Azusa Pacific University, and most notably, his work as Founder and Chair of the Wesleyan Holiness Consortium. He is ordained in the Free Methodist Church. He has also authored numerous books surrounding the topic of Holiness.

In response to receiving the Award, Mannoia said, “The honor I feel in receiving this amazing acknowledgment is beyond words! For this scholarly society to bless me with this recognition is deeply moving. I am so grateful to be part of an academic circle of the church that values so highly the role of bringing theology into practical ministry.”

Mannoia is the second Wesleyan Holiness Consortium member honored by the Wesleyan Theological Society, preceded by Dr. Barry Callen (Lifetime Achievement Award, 2009), Editor of Aldersgate Press and member of the WHC Board of Directors. Dr. Donald Thorsen also served as President in 1994 for the Society and is now an active member of the WHC Publications Team.

Fellow award recipients of the evening included Kara-Lyons Pardue, Dissertation Award; Randy Maddox, Ted Campbell, and Kenneth Collins, Book Award; and Craig Keen, Lifetime Achievement Award.
