Three Roberts Alums Are Selected As RBJ 'Forty Under 40' Award Recipients

ROCHESTER, N.Y. Three graduates of Roberts Wesleyan College’s advanced degree and Adult Professional Studies programs are among this year’s recipients of the Rochester Business Journal’s 2011 “Forty Under 40” award.

Shawanda Evans, Julie Christensen, and Daniele (Lyman) Coll-Gonzalez are among the 40 men and women under the age of 40 being recognized for their professional achievements and their significant civic contributions to the Rochester community.  Along with the other recipients, they will be the guests of honor at a gala luncheon Tuesday, Nov. 15, at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

Kelly E. Smith, the College’s associate vice president for Government, Corporate and Foundation Relations, also was selected as a 2011 “Forty Under 40” award recipient.

Evans, who earned her Master of Education degree from Roberts in 2006, is director of post-secondary services for the Hillside Family of Agencies’ Work-Scholarship Connection.  The agency helps students at risk of dropping out of school to stay and eventually enroll in college.  Long-term support initiatives are in place in New York’s Monroe and Onondaga counties, as well as Prince George’s County, Md.

Christensen earned her Master of Social Work degree from Roberts in 2008.  She is coordinator of the University of Rochester’s Project SEARCH – a transition-to-work program for young adults with significant disabilities.  Christensen recently co-authored a federal grant geared towards changing New York state policy regarding employment supports for people with disabilities, and now serves as director of the project.

Coll-Gonzalez, who got married just last month, earned a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management in 2006 and a master’s degree in Strategic Leadership in 2007 – both through the College’s Adult Professional Studies program.  She is senior vice president and chief operating officer of AIDS Care:  The Center for Positive Living, and Pleasant Street Apothecary, both in Rochester.

“Shawanda, Julie and Daniele are a credit to themselves, to the community, and also to their alma mater,” said Dr. John Martin, President of Roberts Wesleyan College.  “We’re very pleased to have played a role in their success, and we congratulate them for their achievements.”
