Biography

I taught in an elementary school in Connecticut for 25 years.  I took early retirement after completing my doctorate and worked "on the road" in other teachers'classrooms for 8 years.  My work focused on helping teachers develop strong reading programs and learning to conduct guided reading lessons.  I worked in the poorest rural and urban areas of the United States including in California, Florida, Texas, Massachusetts, New York, and Connecticut.  I also worked for several children's book companies reading manuscripts, leveling books, and working with new authors.  Additionally, book companies paid me to write teacher materials for new guided reading books.  My consulting work disappeared after September 11th because of lack of funding.  I decided to move to Western NY which is where my sister and her family live.  Roberts offered me the opportunity to start a new Masters program in literacy and I have happily worked with graduate students for the past 8 years.
