About Dr. Smithers

Emily graduating from Houghton College in 2004, majoring in Biology and minoring in Chemistry and Theology. She then went on to earn a M.S. and Ph. D. from the University at Buffalo in Biological Sciences, studying under Dr. Margaret Hollingsworth. After successfully completing this program, Emily became part of the Biology faculty at Roberts Wesleyan College.

Outside of science, Emily enjoys reading, with some of her favorite authors being Dallas Willard, Richard Foster, Frank Peretti, and Ted Dekker. Once the snow clears, you can find her hiking around all of the local parks in Rochester.  She is also an active member of the Gates Wesleyan Church worship team, playing the guitar on a weekly basis. Emily also spends time throughout the summer volunteering at Camp Vick in Sandusky, NY. She is a board member for Vick and Pathfinder Ministries and an adult advisor  for the American Baptist Churches of New York State Youth Ministries (ABY).
