Biography

Dr. Abbott presents at local and national conferences in the areas of: creating standards-based educational programs for students with disabilities; teacher preparation for K-12 Urban Schools. and supporting teachers of students with disabilities within the high-stakes test cultures.

She has worked with schools to create appropriate and effective inclusive education for students with disabilities, autism, and other complex behaviors.  She is an advocate for parents and students with disabilities, working with school districts to create appropriately challenging and responsive educational programs and supporting parents during the IEP process.

Dr. Abbott's research interests include: Infusing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Response to Intervention (RTI) into the Common Core Standards; the neurobiology of disability and effective programming for students with autism and emotional behavior disorders.
