Technical Services Librarian
Position Description and Responsibilities: Roberts Wesleyan College invites applications for a full-time, 11-month Technical Services Librarian, available October 2017. This academic support faculty position is responsible to the Director of Library Services for acquisitions, cataloging and classification of library collections, maintaining the stacks and administration of other library technical services operations. Responsibilities include supervising the cataloging of library materials and the withdrawal of materials from the collection; hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating Library assistants and student staff; selecting vendors and subscription agents for purchase of materials and overseeing the ordering, check-in and physical processing of materials; overseeing inventory and spacing needs of physical stacks; overseeing budget and compiling annual statistics relating to physical and electronic resources; maintaining displays of new books; overseeing donations & gift materials processing; making decisions on retention and backfile formats for print subscriptions in collaboration with librarians & faculty; participate in the schedule of research assistance desk coverage, which may include evenings & weekends; provide information literacy instruction, participate in campus-wide faculty responsibilities, and serve as liaison to the School of Education and Social Work.
The Technical Services Librarian will be part of a service-oriented team of eight library staff committed to the delivery of excellent library services supported by state-of-the-art technology. Opened in 2007, the B. Thomas Golisano Library features green technology (LEED Silver Certification), ample computer access, wireless connectivity, innovative design, and varied and comfortable study seating. A student constituency in excess of 1,700 includes resident, commuter, adult/non-traditional, and distance/online learner populations.
Qualifications: Requirements include a graduate degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program; a strong commitment to the integration of Christian faith and professional practice and a willingness to support and identify with the College’s Christian mission and identity; two years professional-level library work experience including cataloging with OCLC and with an integrated library system or library service platform. Proficiency in the use of office software, particularly spreadsheets is valuable. Capacity for personnel supervision required. Experience with Alma or Voyager, familiarity with RDA, and a second graduate degree in subject discipline a plus.
