Roberts Wesleyan College invites candidates to apply for a full-time (11-month) Systems Librarian position beginning in approximately September 2020. The B. T. Golisano Library is located on our park-like campus in Rochester, New York, providing the program with the advantages of a suburban setting within a vibrant metropolitan area.
Roberts Wesleyan College is a comprehensive, Christian college of the liberal arts, sciences, and professions serving approximately 1800 traditional and nontraditional students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The College is committed to integrating a Christian worldview with learning in order to prepare thoughtful, spiritually mature, service-oriented people who will help transform society. Roberts has more than 60 undergraduate programs/majors, including 6 different adult-degree completion programs, 14 graduate programs, and 12 online programs; our first doctoral program launched in 2016.
Required qualifications include a graduate degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program (technology emphasis preferred), along with evidence of technical training, experience, and aptitude. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, and problem-solving skills are required. Training or other evidence of proficiency with such programming languages and coding systems as UNIX, FTP, CSS, SQL, HTML, and XML is a plus. Professional-level library work experience is desirable, preferably in an academic library. Experience or at least evidence of proficiency with library systems administration (Ex Libris Alma/Primo experience a plus) is required. Library software applications, web site design and development, electronic resource management, and library applications of social media are required. Proficiency with office software is expected. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to the integration of Christian faith and professional practice and a willingness to support the College’s Christian mission and identity.
Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate or graduate-level courses in information literacy and others to be determined based on areas of expertise. The Systems Librarian is responsible to the Interim Director of Library Services for envisioning, designing, and implementing new tools, technology services and infrastructures. The Systems Librarian optimizes and enhances content delivery tools, services and application infrastructures. While the primary focus for faculty is teaching, effective faculty performance will also include service, profession-related activity, and scholarship.
