Roberts Wesleyan University invites candidates to apply for an adjunct faculty position to teach Introduction to Dance. We seek a dedicated and qualified educator to provide instruction to undergraduate students beginning with the Fall 2026 semester. For Fall 2026, the course is scheduled to meet in person on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00–9:50 a.m.
Introduction to Dance is a two-credit Liberal Arts course that introduces students to the study of dance as an art form through lecture, discussion, movement exploration, observation, and reflective writing. The course explores dance history, aesthetics, creative process, anatomy, movement analysis, and the role of dance across cultures while helping students develop greater awareness of movement, creativity, and mind-body connection. Students enrolled in the course represent a wide variety of academic majors and previous dance experience.
The Department of Music & Performing Arts is housed in the School of Arts & Humanities on our park-like campus in Rochester, New York, providing the program with the advantages of a suburban setting within a vibrant metropolitan area. The department offers undergraduate programs in Music, Music Education, Music Therapy, Performance, Theatre, and Musical Theatre, and is committed to providing students with meaningful artistic experiences grounded in academic excellence and Christian faith.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Dance, Dance Education, Dance Studies, Performing Arts, Kinesiology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Candidates with a bachelor's degree and substantial professional dance and teaching experience may also be considered.
Demonstrated experience teaching dance in higher education, K–12, community arts, or professional studio settings.
Ability to teach students with diverse backgrounds and varying levels of dance experience in an engaging, supportive classroom environment.
Preferred Qualifications
College or university teaching experience.
Professional experience as a dancer, choreographer, movement educator, or dance scholar.
Familiarity with movement analysis frameworks (e.g., Laban/Bartenieff), anatomy for movement, dance history, and creative movement practices.
Experience using instructional technologies and learning management systems (e.g., Moodle).
Candidates must also demonstrate a strong commitment to the integration of Christian faith and professional practice and a willingness to support the University’s Christian mission and identity. A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate multicultural competence and show commitment to the principles of diversity & equity.
Salary Range: $746/credit hour
