Dr. Yvette Conyers ‘10 (Nursing Education)
Roberts alumna Dr. Yvette Conyers ‘10 (Nursing Education) was recently awarded the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) Faculty Scholar Grant.
The AACN Faculty Scholar Grant is a national recognition honoring nursing educators who are shaping the future of healthcare through innovation and advocacy.
For Dr. Conyers, this honor is both personal and professional in nature.
“Receiving the AACN Faculty Scholar Grant is both an honor and a deeply affirming moment in my journey as a nurse educator and advocate. Personally, it reflects the culmination of years of my dedication to advancing health equity, culturally responsive care, and policy engagement,” she shared. “As an alum of Roberts Wesleyan College and someone with roots in Rochester, NY, this recognition also feels like a full-circle moment, affirming the values instilled in me by my community and early academic experiences.”
Professionally, the grant supports her mission to integrate health policy and advocacy into nursing education. Through this funding, Dr. Conyers is launching the Nursing Policy Academy, a program designed to immerse students in real-world legislative and advocacy experiences.
“This project is designed to immerse students in real-world advocacy and legislative processes. This is an opportunity to strengthen our partnerships within the Baltimore community organizations, policymakers, and advocacy groups, allowing us to build a sustainable model that can be replicated nationally.”

Dr. Conyers hopes the project will inspire a new generation of policy-engaged nurses. These clinicians will not only provide excellent care but also champion equity and health justice within their communities.
