Darlene J. Hulbert (Bigler) ‘66 (Music)
Darlene J. Hulbert, 81, of Troupsburg, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, NY.
Darlene was born June 28, 1944 to Norwood and Onnolee (Waldron) Bigler in Batavia, NY. On August 19, 1966, she married J. Elliott Hulbert, who predeceased her in 2019. Darlene and Elliott made their home at 940 Hulbert Road in Troupsburg for over 50 years. In January 2021, Darlene moved to Updykes Personal Care Home in Hornell. She resided there until October 2025 when for health reasons she was transferred to Wellsville Manor Care Center in Wellsville.
Elliott and Darlene had no children, but spent much time with nieces and nephews and children of friends and colleagues. They enjoyed traveling with one memorable trip to Florida where it was “sweltering” in August. They enjoyed many day trips in later years when health kept them closer to home.
Darlene’s love of music led her to lead many community cantatas, play for Sunday church services and other occasions involving music. She and Elliott began a puppet ministry spreading the gospel to children across the area. She enjoyed entertaining the Updyke residents with her piano playing many days. At the Manor, she rekindled her artistic interests.
Darlene attended Batavia elementary schools and graduated from Alexander High School. She graduated from Roberts Wesleyan College with a BA in music education. She later graduated from Mansfield University with a Masters in Elementary Education with Certificate in Reading. Darlene began and ended her teaching career of 37 years in Troupsburg Central, Jasper Central and Jasper-Troupsburg Central School Districts. She considered herself “Grandmother” teacher because she taught children of former students.
Darlene was a member of the Addison Presbyterian Church, Gideon’s Auxiliary, Troupsburg Ambulance Corps, International Reading Association, Music Educators National Association and Literacy Volunteers of America.
Darlene was predeceased by her husband, Elliott, her parents, Norwood and Onnolee Bigler, infant brother, Darwin Bigler, in-laws, Raymond and Gladys Hulbert, sister-in-law, Joyce (Jr.) Burdick, brothers-in-law, Henry Hulbert and Donald Hulbert, grandparents and aunts and uncles.
She is survived by cousins, Diane (Ron) Burroughs, Sandy (Ron) Weiler, Jane (John) Marone, Debbie (John) Miscura, Lori Otis, Steve Toal and Robert Toal, sisters-in-law, Millie Hulbert, Ann Hulbert and Dora Hulbert, Nieces, Jane (Rob) Ficiur, Karen (Mike) Smith, Bonnie (Rus) Williams, Becky (Padge) Elvenia, Nephews, Tim (Janice) Hulbert, Paul (Tracie) Hulbert, Dan (Colene) Hulbert and Philip (Barb) Hulbert and her beloved cat Blackie.

Mary McCaffery (Holloway) ‘74 (English)
Mary Louise (Holloway) McCaffery, age 73, passed away June 5, 2026, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, after a brief illness. Born in Bath, New York, she was a graduate of Roberts Wesleyan University, was proud of her career in retail, and loved puzzles and cats.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Gordon E. and Louise Agnes [Heed] Holloway; and her husband, Charles Raymond “Mickey” McCaffery. She is survived by her brother, Gary E. Holloway of Brocton, N.Y.; a niece, Heather Kramer-Holloway; nephews, Shawn and Christopher Holloway; and great-nieces and -nephews, all of the Rochester area.

Julie E. Hungerford (Lynch) ‘98 (Organizational Management)
On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the sun set on the beautiful life of Julie Eileen Lynch Hungerford, age 55, of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Born on April 20, 1971, in Rochester, New York, to her loving parents, Tom and Peggy Lynch, Julie was the youngest of five children. She attended Fairport High School, where she participated in cheerleading, and spent summers making treasured memories with family at Keuka Lake, tanning, laughing, and enjoying life on the water.
Julie earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Roberts Wesleyan University. Following graduation, she worked at the Democrat and Chronicle. She later spent four years at Sycamore Hill Designs, where she cultivated many cherished friendships with colleagues. In recent years, Julie worked in accounts payable at Calero and most recently for Maersk in Norfolk, Virginia.
While living in upstate New York, Julie met the love of her life, Greg Hungerford. They were married in Elmira, New York, on October 4, 2008. The couple made their home for many years in Farmington, New York, before relocating to Virginia Beach in 2022. Julie absolutely loved life at the beach and cherished her flip-flops, the sand beneath her toes, a blazing sunset, and a cold Michelob Ultra.
Julie was a devoted dog mom to Tucker, her beloved black lab. Long walks on the beach, playing in the sand, and tossing his favorite toys brought her immense joy. Though Julie and Greg moved from New York, they remained passionate fans of the Buffalo Bills. Their enthusiastic cheers could often be heard by neighbors on game days or at favorite local spots like Shore Break Pizza & Taphouse and CP Shuckers. They also shared a favorite weekend tradition of lunch dates together, enjoying and exploring new restaurants around town.
Julie is survived by her husband of 17 years, Greg Hungerford; his children, Amanda Hunn and Cody Hungerford; her parents, Thomas and Margaret Lynch of Canandaigua, New York; her sister, Colleen Gorcica (Jason) of Naples, New York; her brothers, Daniel Lynch (Kris) of Tampa, Florida, and Kevin Lynch (Christine) of Victor, New York; along with eight nieces, one nephew, two grand-nieces, and one grand-nephew.
She was predeceased by her brother, Michael Lynch (Jennifer) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and her grandparents, Edward and Ruth Zink.

James L. Moore ‘59 (Comprehensive Social Studies)
James Leroy Moore, 94, known to most as “Jim” or “Bill”, passed away just after sunset on May 15, 2026 in Fremont, Michigan.
James was born December 15, 1931 in Dewitt, Arkansas to George Moore and Lillie Ralstin Moore. He moved with his family to Albion, Michigan in 1946. He attended Albion High School and then went on to Spring Arbor Junior College, where he met the love of his life, Eleanor “Lenny” Connor. The couple married in 1954 and moved to Rochester, New York, where James continued his education at Roberts Wesleyan College. Following graduation in 1959, the couple settled in southeast Michigan, and James became an elementary teacher for Taylor Public Schools in Taylor Michigan. He went on to receive his Masters in Elementary Counseling from Eastern Michigan University in 1965 and began his career as an Elementary School Counselor for Taylor Schools. He was recognized for his contributions to the field of school counseling and was honored as Elementary School Counselor of the Year for the State of Michigan and President of Michigan Elementary School Counselor’s Association. Meanwhile, the family grew with the birth of four children. James and Lenny were active members of the Dearborn Free Methodist Church, and James was integral in the planting and building of the Taylor Free Methodist Church.
After raising their family, the couple retired to Springfield, Missouri. They soon became members of Second Baptist Church, where they developed dear friendships in the Senior Seconds class.
James was intentionally kind. He was intelligent and had a delightful sense of humor. He was always quick with a story. He loved music and travel, he loved his family, and he had an unwavering faith in Jesus.
James was preceded in death by Lenny, his beloved wife of sixty-nine years, his parents, his brother Cecil Moore, and his sister Mary Louise Robertson. He will be lovingly missed by his children Cathy Razook, Jeff (Lora) Moore, Kristen (Don) Galloway, and Greg Moore, grandchildren Kevin Razook, Matthew Razook, Anna Soals, Dustine (Bryan) Baez, Elizabeth Galloway, Mitchell (Alyssa) Galloway, Lindsay (Brandon) Bean, and Lauren (Evan) Jakab, as well as four great-grandchildren, extended family, and many dear friends.
