Andrew Semotiuk Ph.D.

Andrew has a Ph.D. in Plant Biology from the University of California, Riverside (2018), bringing strong research background from his work as Research Operations Manager at McGill University's Goodman Cancer Institute and Research Associate at the Plant Biology Institute of the Montreal Botanic Gardens. His teaching and research explore how human plant use shapes the surrounding environment—ranging from mapping land use changes to ethnobotanical studies of wild food plants and molecular mechanisms—and he loves guiding students through hands-on, testable research projects. Andrew is excited to explore Rochester during his first year here and spends his free time with his family, whether telling stories, camping, playing board games, or building projects—most recently a backyard chicken coop where his three children are learning to care for five new chicks.
