Economic Crime Investigation is an interdisciplinary major that blends courses from Criminal Justice, Accounting, and Computer Science.  Students are given a firm foundation in the procedures of criminal investigation and the preparation of evidence for the justice system in the criminal justice courses that are required.  In addition, students learn accounting, auditing, and an understanding of the computer systems that are used in today's businesses.  College graduates with this type of specialized education and training are in demand to effectively deal with sophisticated white-collar and financial crime made possible by our technological age.

Each student majoring in Economic Crime Investigation will select either an Accounting or Computer Science concentration.  Students taking the Accounting concentration will take additional courses that will help them toward becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).   Students selecting the Computer Science concentration will take additional studies that will prepare them for either the technical side of law enforcement or for work on the prevention of crime through computer security.

SPECIFICS OF THE ECONOMIC CRIME INVESTIGATION B.S. DEGREE

Minimum Total Hours:  124

Total Liberal Arts Hours Required:  60

General Education Requirements:  Per General Education list (see General Education Division). Exceptions: only one fine arts course is required (ART 101, MUS 104, OR FNA 102); lab science may be BIO 103 or CHM 111 or NSC 207; MTH 200 is required; PSY 101 or 203 required for the behavioral science elective; SOC 101 required for the history, economic, or social sciences elective.

Minimum Requirements:  Overall and major GPA of 2.0; no grade less than C- in the major.

Application to the Major:  The Social Sciences Division Application to the Major Form is accepted.  A minimum overall GPA of 2.0 is required for acceptance to the major.

Admission Requirements:  See institutional policies pertaining to admission.  Students who plan to major in Economic Crime Investigation should indicate so immediately upon entering the College.

• Accounting courses:  ACC 201, 201 lab, 202, 202 lab, 301, 302, 311, 312, and 411;
• Criminal justice courses:  CRJ 101, 201, 205, 210, 304, 308, 401, 450A, and 450B;
• Computer science courses:  CSC 103, 104, 130, 140, and 306;
• ECN 201.

Major Requirements -  Computer Science Concentration -- 75 hours
