Who Will I Meet?

student

From the first time I stepped into Carpenter Hall I felt right at home. This building, apart from housing the Mac lab -- which feels like my second home -- is where I have met some of the most amazing people ever. I have never met professors who are so dedicated to helping me succeed. They not only push me to my fullest potential in class, but they also truly care about my life outside of the classroom. These genuine relationships have helped me to grow in my confidence as an artist. My classmates, as well, are a support and encouragement. I know, just by walking into the building in the morning, that I am going to be challenged and encouraged while learning skills that I will be able to use as a graphic designer for my future career.

When I first arrived, I honestly was not sure if Roberts was the right fit for me. However, as soon as I took my first class I began to get excited about my college career. What changed was I realized that all the professors here truly care about their students, and take the time, not only to learn our names, but also about us as people. I have grown so much in my faith and skill, and I owe it all to this college. I am truly blessed to be a part of this community then encouraged me to take risks, learn about myself, and maintain my faith in Christ.

Studio Art and Child and Special Education dual major, 2016

My four years here at Roberts have helped me become a capable and confident individual. When I first started out as a freshman, I was insecure in my work and my capabilities, but I have grown to develop my own style and areas of interest that express who I am as an artist. The small class sizes help generate a sense of community between the students and faculty. My professors are not only supportive and honest with me about my work but they are also there for me on a more personal level.

I discovered a welcoming community that supports and cares about one another when I transferred to Roberts. The people I’ve met and the professors I’ve had are all part of what has made my time at Roberts so unforgettable. To be surrounded by such encouraging people has helped me greatly in developing into the man I need to be and who God created me to be. Roberts has given me the opportunity to focus on growing in my faith and to pursue my passion in the field of photography. I am looking forward to my path ahead because of the work that started here at Roberts.

Roberts means opportunity. The support from professors here is almost like having second parents. They are really attuned to what you want to achieve and how to get you there. If I had not come here, I would never have gotten the unique experience I’ve had so far. Maybe then, I wouldn’t have had the courage to study abroad at Oxford either.

My favorite aspect of the Art Department is its strong sense of community. My classmates and I have grown together over the years as artists, academics, and as marketable professionals under the teaching of the professors. I am very confident in my ability to get a job in my field after I graduate because I am educated in more than just my major. I wouldn't be the artist that I am today if it wasn’t for the immense amount of support and encouragement that I have received from this department.
