The Career Development Office at Roberts Wesleyan University was recently awarded a two-year program development grant from The Council of Independent Colleges. This award builds on the professional development grant Roberts received in 2022, where the institution worked with faculty and staff leaders across campus on vocation and calling.
The programming is designed to impact the student experience and provide positive personal growth opportunities. “Career Development is delighted to receive this grant. It will help us to continue that work, which started in 2022, with students providing a program for first-generation and BIPOC students to explore the ideas of vocation and career exploration,” said Director of Career Development Mary Flaherty. Students will have reflection opportunities through workshops, mentoring, and more to help them discover their gifts and calling.
“Another program component will be to support this specific student population, expand their professional and community networks, and provide the “space” and opportunity for encouraging non-threatening and educational interactions,” said Flaherty. “Additional efforts will include preparing resources for faculty and staff to enhance interactions and discussions on calling, vocation, and career with students and/or embedding them into curriculum or co-curricular experiences.”
