Alumni Spotlight: Kaleb Colosimo ‘18 (Communication and Psychology)

Providing person-centered counseling for those from all walks of life.

Being a self-employed Mental Health Counselor requires someone who is a firm believer that everyone can benefit from therapy. Kaleb Colosimo ‘18 (Communication and Psychology) has a professional goal to help his clients live the life they want, including taking control of writing their own story.

Colosimo has been in practice for over a year.  He received a certificate of Advanced Studies in Women and Gender Studies from SUNY Brockport in 2022. He welcomes clients from all walks of life and values diversity. He has worked with individuals ranging from teenagers to seniors dealing with issues including depression, anxiety, bipolar, OCT, PTSD, self-harm and more.

Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: Clients who have had previously bad experiences in counseling sharing with me that they have regained trust in the process through working together.

Who was your favorite faculty member and how did this person enrich your learning? One class that I really enjoyed was Shakespeare, with Dr. Matthew Moore. I had just started pursuing my double major of Psychology and had the opportunity to write an essay for this class diagnosing King Lear using the DSM. It was such a fun way to combine my passions of theater and mental health!

What is your best advice to an applicant hoping to get into Roberts Wesleyan University? My advice for a prospective Roberts student is to be open to learning about yourself along the way. You don’t have to have your life figured out yet - this is a time to explore!

How did your Roberts education help you prepare for your career? Both my classes and my extracurriculars at Roberts made me realize my interest in working in the behavioral health field. I remember taking an Introduction to Counseling class as an undergraduate student; where I really fell in love with the idea of being a therapist and decided that is what I wanted my career path to look like.

Share your best Roberts memory: Probably my favorite memory from Roberts was performing as Edmund in the college’s production of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe during my sophomore year. It was the first time I had gotten a lead in one of the school’s productions, and I had such a blast getting to know my fellow cast members and crew.

What is your greatest professional accomplishment? Starting in private practice right after finishing graduate school. I received my Master’s of Science in Mental Health Counseling degree from SUNY Brockport.
