Redhawks Spring Summary

Roberts Wesleyan Spring Sports Team Summaries 

Men’s Lacrosse:

The Roberts Wesleyan men’s lacrosse team finished the season with a 4-12 overall record. The team won four out of its first six games to start the season, but was unable to pick up any wins down the stretch in a very competitive East Coast Conference schedule. 

Junior Alex Bianchi was the team’s point leader with 44 points on 31 goals and 13 assists. Sophomore Cody Menzies led in the goal category with 34 on the season. 

 

Women’s Lacrosse:

The Roberts Wesleyan women’s lacrosse team had a historic 2017 season as they were the first team in program history to make the East Coast Conference Championships. The Redhawks finished with a 7-11 overall record, including a 4-4 record in ECC play. The team lost in the semifinals of the conference tournament to nationally-ranked LIU Post. 

Senior attacker, Cassley Jackowski was the team’s leading point scorer with 83 goals and 35 assists. Jackowski also led NCAA Division II in points, points per game, goals, and goals per game. 

 

Men’s Tennis:

The Roberts Wesleyan men’s tennis team completed their spring season narrowly missing out on the East Coast Conference Championships. The team finished with a 13-12 overall record. 

Paul Langbroek was named the ECC Rookie of the Year. The freshman compiled a record of 20-8 in singles play and 19-8 in doubles. He earned ECC Player of the Week honors three times. 

 

Men’s Outdoor Track & Field:

The Roberts Wesleyan men’s track and field team placed second in the East Coast Conference Championships this past season and sixth at the NCCAA Championships. 

Senior Malcolm Shaw qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships in the Javelin after winning the NCCAA Championships with a toss of 64.56 meters.

The Redhawks earned ECC titles in seven different events. Four student-athletes were named NCCAA All-Americans.

 

Women’s Outdoor Track & Field:

The Roberts Wesleyan women’s track and field team brought home another East Coast Conference title for the third straight year. The team also took second at the NCCAA National Championships. 

Junior Chelsea Hayward came off her impressive indoor season with an outstanding outdoor season. The sprinter was the NCCAA national champion in the 100 meters (11.73 seconds) and 200 meters (23.84 seconds), setting school records in both events. Hayward also qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships. 

The Redhawks earned ECC titles in five different events. Eight student-athletes were named NCCAA All-Americans.
