Douglas R. Giebel: Retrospective Exhibit of Paintings and Drawings

The Davison Gallery is hosting a retrospective exhibit of work by Professor of Visual Art, Douglas Giebel. Featured are paintings, drawings and prints produced over a period of 50 years, from a high school watercolor of Detroit's Zug Island, through work from his college days in New York City and his years teaching in St. Paul, Minnesota, to his 33-year tenure at Roberts Wesleyan.

Giebel is a figurative painter, who works from direct observation in the traditional genres of still life, landscape, and figure, with particular attention to combining landscapes with figures. The exhibit highlights works set in Highland Park, often populated by groups of musicians and readers, drawn from his family members.

The public is invited to meet the artist at the reception on Friday, September 25 from 5-7 p.m. The exhibit opens on August 24 and continues through September 25. The gallery hours are 11:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
