Second Largest Freshman Class in School History

Roberts Wesleyan College brought in their second largest freshman class in school history this fall. Classes began for all traditional undergraduate students on Monday, August 25. Over 250 freshmen and 87 transfer students started the fall semester. Students came from 12 different countries and 16 different states. Not only is there a large incoming class, but the academic quality of their students increased with the average SAT score among freshmen raising over 10 points.

Over the past few years, Roberts Wesleyan refocused much of their recruitment efforts on identifying students who would fit well in the Roberts community. Associate Vice President JP Anderson stated, “As a Christian school, we are looking for service-minded and academically prepared students who want to make a difference in society.” Anderson attributed the recruitment success to his team of counselors who are passionate about bringing in students that will make a difference in society.

Most unique to this year’s incoming class is a promotion that granted a free room scholarship to freshmen from select regions. One region that obtained eligibility was the Greater Buffalo area. Freshmen enrollment from the Buffalo area increased 140 percent from 2013 to 2014. Due to the success of the promotion, the administration approved extending the free room scholarship promotion into fall 2015 for all freshmen, regardless of location. VP for Student Life Nelson Hill remarked, “Living on-campus is one of the most formative parts of being a student at a Christian college. The free room scholarship enables students and families to experience this important part of our community.”
