Roberts Raiders Kick Off First Ever Men's and Women's Lacrosse Seasons
Support the Raiders as they play their inaugural lacrosse games!
The men's and women's Raider lacrosse teams begin competition in the next few weeks. Come out and support the teams as a new tradition is begun at Roberts. The men's team has its first home game on Saturday, February 25th at 1:00 pm against Alfred University. The women's team begins its 2012 season on Saturday, March 17th at 1:00 pm against Elmira College.
The men's team is led by head coach Rocky Delfino. Coach Delfino comes to Roberts after 9 seasons as head coach of men's lacrosse at Monroe Community College, having amassed an overall winning record 105-32. Delfino was named Region III Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2005 and NJCAA National Coach of the Year in 2005. He led the 2010 team to a program-record 17 victories. In addition to his position as head coach, he is also an assistant professor for MCC's Health and Physical Education Department.
The women's team is led by Domenica Marino. Coach Domenica is a 2002 graduate of East Rochester High School. As a six-year varsity starter, Domenica was selected to the All-County 2nd team in 1999, All-County 1st team from 2000 to 2002, and selected to the 2000 and 2002 Section Five All-Tournament team. In 2002, Domenica was named a 2002 Lacrosse All-American and was granted a Division I scholarship to the University at Albany.
Domenica graduated from the University at Albany in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Italian. After taking a fifth year at Albany, due to a redshirt year, she graduated in 2007 with a second Bachelor of Arts in Communication. Domenica returned to Rochester to work for the Xerox Corporation. While working at Xerox, she attended SUNY College at Brockport for a Master of Arts in Communication which she completed in 2009.
For the past nine years Domenica has also been the assistant director and coach for Lady Roc Lacrosse, a premier lacrosse club in Rochester. Domenica also assisted the varsity lacrosse coach at East Rochester High School from 2003 and 2008. After leaving her assistant position at East Rochester, she became a volunteer assistant of SUNY College at Brockport in 2009.

Nicholas Carr, author of The Shallows: What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains, will be the special guest speaker at Roberts Wesleyan College on Tuesday, March 13 at 7:30 a.m. Carr has spoken on technology, culture, economics, and innovation at Harvard, MIT, Wharton, Berkeley, the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, NASA, the University of Sydney, and Moscow State University and has given keynote addresses at dozens of industry, company, governmental, and professional events in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. You won’t want to miss this exciting opportunity to hear from one of the world’s leading experts on this relevant topic.
Nicholas Carr will be on campus as a part of the two-day RWC 2012 Biennial Academic Conference on The Future: Opportunities and Challenges, Monday and Tuesday, March 12-13, 2012. Carr will offer a keynote address on Tuesday entitled, The Mind in the Net at 9:15 a.m. in Hale Auditorium in the Cultural Life Center followed by more than a dozen concurrent seminars addressing interdisciplinary topics related to “The Future” presented by RWC/NES faculty, alumni, and community leaders -- in such fields as media, finance and economy, church life, physics, health care, farming and food production, criminal justice, relationships, and community. Sandy Parker, President and CEO of the Rochester Business Alliance, will give a luncheon address entitled, Insights of the Future of Greater Rochester in the Ellen Stowe Room for conference leaders, community members, and invited guests.
